I’ve written about styling up low purchase items with high purchase items before, I thought I would give a similar tip for outerwear items.
Did you buy your raincoat for style or function?
Just because you bought your outerwear for function, doesn’t mean you cannot add a bit of style.
Let me start off by saying I hate the rain. I enjoy dry heat, even though I live in Canada where i can experience all four seasons in a single day!
So when it came down to buying a raincoat… it was more of chore rather than a style opportunity. Although I’ve seen so many unbelievably cute rain coat and boot assembles.
I chose a $20 dollar functional rain coat from some obscure online website shipped from China. (We’ve all done it).
Even though I bought with dollar amount and function in mind, that hasn’t stopped me from styling UP my purchase.
Reasons I liked the coat:
1) It had an inner fur lining for colder days
2) Pockets
3) Hood
4) Belted Waist
I removed the inner fur lining, this gives a more relaxed spring feel. I opted for one of my own waist belts. I chose one that was high contrast; the white will really stand out against the black. I also enjoy the studded belt as it adds a bit of attitude not really seen in most raincoats; which are often brightly coloured and sweet looking.
I also paired this jacket with a black studded belt as well, and it looked just as chic.
The length is just short enough to show a bit of the hounds tooth dress I wore underneath.
The dress is H&M and the knee high boots are sirens (bought on sale $10).
Overall this outfit was very inexpensive. I think the most expensive item was my umbrella. But I definitely expected to invest in this item. I didn’t want an umbrella that would break the first time I used it. I am very happy with my Mary Poppin’s umbrella; as someone called it once.
