Style Adventure: old Town country road

I have always wanted to style a Canadian tuxedo. When we came across this old mill off an abandon railroad I knew now was the perfect time.

I couldn’t decide between two ways of styling. The first was a full buttoned, true to Canadian tuxedo, styled with heels and gold accents.

My hair is crimped from French braids worn over night and styled with a black ribbon. It gave it a very cutesy 60s vibe.

My hair was going crazy in the below shot was a loved how fun it made the photo.

My second styling was more relaxed with deep reddish boots and an unbuttoned jean shirt. I switched up the purse as well to a more everyday relaxed style with fringe.

We followed the abandoned railroad to the end of the line just for fun and I’m glad we did because it inspired the last styling.

This is the feel of the town that I grew up in.

I hope you enjoyed my little nostalgic style adventure.

Re-purposing Work Clothes

To make the most of your wardrobe, don’t leave your work wear in a special place in your closet. Doomed to only be dragged out on sad mornings getting ready for the Nine to Five!

Re-purpose your work wear and style it for casual wear or a date night look.

Fashion Flashback: August Favs

Well it’s about that time for my favourites outfits during the past month.

Outfit 1

IMG_20140829_093640[1]

[ Goodwill top, RW.CO blue skinny pants, Gold Tassle Necklace from Jewels of Yours, Nine West Pointed black heel, and a beige blazer unknown ]

I remember getting ready for this day, and not feeling too hot.

Those days when nothing makes you feel like you look good.

So I just wanted to throw on a pair of pants and a blazer. But I also wanted to style my gold tassel necklace right. I needed to do this necklace c/o of Jewels of Yours justice with a well styled look; I did this with a low cut shirt. And that’s how this look came together. I got a lot of positive feedback of this outfit on instagram. Just goes to show you that how you feel may not necessarily reconcile with how people see you!

Always thankful for the love I get from my followers!! 🙂

 Outfit 2

IMG_20140821_102156[1]

[ Goodwill top, skirt, and heels that are nine west. Styled with a chunky pearl and jewel necklace ]

I choose this outfit because I am proud of it!

This was the only new article of clothing I got this month. It was part of my “make it your own thrift post.”

You can check out the before and after here:

https://babytfashiondiaries.com/2014/08/21/thrift-thursday-part-2/

Outfit 3

IMG_20140808_093737[1]

[ H&M checkered dress layered with a star wars tee, H&M b&W belt and my chunk pearl-jewel necklace. lastly my goodwill booties and American Eagle shades ]

I just adore this outfit. It is funky, and cute.

Plus you can totally see how stoked I am to be wearing it and that it is a friday!

Just because it screams fun. This outfit made my list.

Outfit 4

IMG_20140828_093627[1]

[ Agate Necklace from Jewels of Yours, Naked Zebra red top, Goodwill dress pant, H&M white belt, and Goodwill Ninewest Peeptoe Heels ]

Usually when I wear dress pants especially wide legged ones, I feel stuffy.

But paired with my relaxed red tank and my Agate Necklace.

It added more attitude to a rather conservative look.

Which is your favourite?!

Jewels of Yours

I have been following Jewels of Yours on instagram for awhile.

She showcases her beautiful array of statement necklaces, dainty necklaces, and cute bags!

After a mutual love and support IG relationship- we decided to collaborate.

Coming all the way from Singapore–

Oh the connections you make through life 🙂

I noticed a package in my mailbox. I practically ran upstairs to open it in my condo.

During our conversations Vanessa from Jewels of Yours would say: “I hope the jewels bring you joy!”

And oh did they ever.

As I unwrapped each of the three pieces that arrived.

I Literally squealed of happiness!!!

I couldn’t wait to style each necklace.

Right away I had three outfits in mind based around each piece.

Tiana Blue Gem Necklace

PicsArt_1409145344478[1] PicsArt_1409497520517[1]

All my current necklaces are either: pearl, chain, black, or gold.

Very neutral because then they are easy to put with outfits.

But now I have been tainted with colour!

This blue gem necklace has been the easiest to style with my clothing ironically.

It compliments colour and adds a boost of colour where there isn’t much.

Agate Silver Chain and Pearl Necklace

This necklace felt like the most “me.”

The combination of pearls and chains is so very me.

A little bit of class, mixed with a little bit of attitude.

PicsArt_1409232960253[1]

It was perfect to add some attitude to a conservative work look.

It adds a lot of personality to any outfit.

But it is definitely enough of a statement piece to stand on its own as well

Just some bare skin and a necklace.

Tassels Necklace

I just HAD to do a plunging neckline outfit for this necklace.

PicsArt_1409319382948[1]

PicsArt_1409703334355[1]

This necklace won’t only look great with a shirt or dress that follows the same neckline.

It would also look amazing with a dress or shirt that has a high neckline.

Loverly- Courthouse wedding Styling Challenge

Loverly- Courthouse wedding

Wedding dress
bhldn.com

Earrings
bhldn.com

I never partook in wedding-play as a child. I haven’t dreamt about my wedding dress and ring every waking moment. But I can appreciate the romantic side of wedding nuptials. Although I find the notions of romance often get swallowed up by the circus of the wedding party.

Therefore when I was asked to style a wedding by the digital wedding BFF lover.ly– I was very upfront with my hesitation- Claiming that I would be happy merely to go to the courthouse for my hypothetical wedding rather than the traditional big wedding or beach side wedding. I was encouraged none the less to style a wedding at a courthouse.  Completely intrigued to test my styling techniques, I happily obliged.

Ok so how do you style a look for a courthouse? My first thought was to go with a short dress. But the dresses did not feel special enough; they felt as though they took the ceremony out of the wedding. So I started to search for a new dress that felt formal yet easy and comfortable. I came across this beautiful blush coloured corset bhldn dress. I also thought that the blush colour was perfect for this non-traditional wedding.

Even though the wedding setting isn’t traditionally formal; courthouses are often in the grandest or oldest buildings in the city. They often have grand architecture or at least great character. To match this feeling I wanted the bride’s look to feel just as royal. Therefore the formality of a long wedding dress would not feel “out of place” in its surroundings. I also choose to go with a sparkly headpiece instead of a veil because it was untraditional yet royal.

I didn’t think the bride’s look should have a tonne of jewellery even though I found more than a few pieces that would look amazing. I wanted her look to not only be non-traditional and royal, I wanted it to be comfortable and easy. Therefore I didn’t choose a necklace because it would compete with the bedazzlement on the corset of the dress. But I did pick a pair of low hanging pearl earrings that added a classic touch, but still allowed her bare skin to speak to the simplicity of the look.

For a shoe I knew i had to go with an open strappy heel. A closed heel would feel too heavy for the dress. I needed the heel to be comfortable as well and the ankle strap makes the heel an easy wear. Lastly it matched the sparkly blush toned wedding dress perfectly.

All together it creates my non-traditional, simple and chic, royal wedding look.

Asian Impression Photography

I’ve followed @asianimpression ie. Teban on instagram for quite some time.

His instagram is dedicated to asian beauty and fashion.

I am never disappointed with his posts. He even adds witty and inspirational captions to each photo.

What’s not to love about that?

You can check out his work here:

or his instagram:

Teban had decided to come to toronto to do collaborations with some of his friends from Instagram.

He contacted me to do a 3 outfit photoshoot.

I got to say I was a little shocked.

1. little ol me? really?!

2. umm.. Im not asian? haha … luckily I was one of the few rare exceptions

3. Oh crap. Im not in the shape I would love to be for such an opportunity.

But you know what it was an amazing opportunity that such insecurities would not hold me back!

I was pleasantly surprised that Teban choose to shoot in Kensington Market with its beautiful colours and culture.

I thought that it was such a perfect setting.

Every wall that Teban placed me in front of- i loved. Exactly why i picked this outfit.

It was fun, colourful, and funky.

Perfect for all these graffiti walls.

luckily he was willing to shoot me in front of my favourite wall, the black and white one,  even though the sun overexposed everything.

This outfit represents how I like to have fun with my wardrobe and experiment!

The Garden Home Tour Dress in Pink

Modcloth and Baby T’s Fashion Diaries

So I am completely flattered to be asked to participate in Modcloth’s uniquely you campaign.

The first article of clothing they have asked me to style in my individual taste is their: “The Garden Home Tour Dress in Pink”

Garden Home Tour Dress in Pink

This dress is absolutely stunning!

The cut is absolutely perfect for my body type: a high-waisted dress with a sweet-heart neckline!

And florals are very trendy this spring,

Although I can appreciate the beauty of this dress…

I am not particularly a flowery-pink-girly girl… I am up for the challenge to make this dress my own.

I am going to darken it up a bit!

PicsArt_1400284998860[1]

retro vintage sweater

Modcloth Vintage Crochet Cadigan

This Crochet Cardigan keeps the spring look but definitely darkens the look for me. But I do not want to lose my waist so I added a belt.

Modcloth Vintage Feather Belt

Modcloth Vintage Feather Belt

The feather ties in nicely with the crochet cardigan, and the teal ties in nicely with the colours of the floral dress. The colour isn’t matchy-matchy with the dress, but they do “go together.”

I was beyond happy when I found these rings that have the deep teal colour of the belt and the white and red from the dress… helping me bring everything together.

Modcloth Trifecta Ring Set

Modcloth Trifecta Ring Set

I also like the edgy contemporary style of the rings that contrasts with the old-style of the dress.

Lastly I choose a dark red heel that compliments both the dress and the dark accessories I added.

Modcloth Fine Dining Heel in Rouge

Modcloth Fine Dining Heel in Rouge

I picked this style of heel to give the dress a more contemporary feel.

PicsArt_1400284998860[1]

I did a lot of mixing with this styling:

Mixing: flowerly-pink-girly with dark-crochet-feathers.

Mixing: the old vintage style dress with the contemporary heel and rings.

But I used the colour pallet to help tie everything together.

Garden Home Tour Dress in Pink

I know some of my readers would love to wear this dress.

You can get this dress and  accessories that would go perfectly while representing what this dress stands for at:

 www.modcloth.com

My styling has really changed the look of this dress…almost making the flowers ironic.

But the Modcloth campaign is called Uniquely You.

And this is how i would wear and style this dress!

I hope you can appreciate the changes I’ve made to the over all character of the look.

Let me know what you think! 🙂
