Style Adventure: Princess Dress Up

I was reading a Narcity Canada article that recommended Ontario Locations if your a Disney Princess at heart, and I came across this Rapunzel looking tower and I knew I had to make a style adventure weekend out to kitchener.

I was imagining a flowing dress (I realized I have like NONE) but I had a dress that was a first purchase reject brides maid dress that was golden like Rapunzels hair and I knew it was PERFECT!

Ahhhh it came out exactly how I was picturing it. That hardly ever happens for me when planning style adventures. You never know what the locations are going to throw at you, or if your outfit/hair will come out exactly how you want, OR if me and the man will be vibing that day and can get on the same page to make ‘the shot!’

The dress has a super high slit which is very the brand I.e. my first Fashion Nova purchase. Since I have been rocking alot more curves lately…. I might start making more purchases there for sure!

I was planning to have my hair in a braid to the side…. with possibly some embedded flowers throughout, like the movie Tangled. I decided against it and instead only give a nod to Rapunzel and rock my own brown locks the way I would as a native princess.

Fun Fact: while shooting this look some guys stood outside their truck and just watched us do our photo shoot. This is probably the look I am giving in this photo. BUT I kinda liked it, “excuse me, this is my land, off with his head!”.

I was definitely feeling this look. For the heels I choose the colour that Rapunzel actually wears… purple. The heels actually have golden studs as well on them, but none of the photos can really see that (oh well! Haha).

I hope you enjoyed coming along while I played Disney princess dress up. I had a lot of fun creating this blog post!

Unexpected Photo Shoots: Dundurn Castle

So this weekend I had a planned a photo shoot about an hour from home, and we made the journey on Saturday only to be deeply disappointed…

We had to make some quick decisions and changes, which turned out to be a great photo session.

Styling Tips: Mixing High and Low Items Part 2

I wanted a sleeveless grey maxi dress for a awhile now.

I have seen this dress styled in so many ways, I knew I had to add it to my wardrobe. It would serve my mood-styling very well. Today I feel classy (grey maxi), today I feel bad ass (grey maxi), today i feel like… just throwing something on …(grey maxi).

It just works on so many levels.

Toronto’s Shopping: Adorn on Yonge

I’d like to thank Adorn for the invitation to their grand opening!

They have a mix of pretty bohemian to airy modern attire.

Each piece is stylish “easy-wear.”

Tights vs Naked

I feel naked without tights.

Is that stating the obvious or can that actually be a feeling? 🙂

Once I put on a pair of tights…I feel more sexy even compared to bare legs.

I recently reviewed some Tattoo’d Tights from a Canadian Company

Jewels of Yours

I have been following Jewels of Yours on instagram for awhile.

She showcases her beautiful array of statement necklaces, dainty necklaces, and cute bags!

After a mutual love and support IG relationship- we decided to collaborate.

Coming all the way from Singapore–

Oh the connections you make through life 🙂

I noticed a package in my mailbox. I practically ran upstairs to open it in my condo.

During our conversations Vanessa from Jewels of Yours would say: “I hope the jewels bring you joy!”

And oh did they ever.

As I unwrapped each of the three pieces that arrived.

I Literally squealed of happiness!!!

I couldn’t wait to style each necklace.

Right away I had three outfits in mind based around each piece.

Tiana Blue Gem Necklace

All my current necklaces are either: pearl, chain, black, or gold.

Very neutral because then they are easy to put with outfits.

But now I have been tainted with colour!

This blue gem necklace has been the easiest to style with my clothing ironically.

It compliments colour and adds a boost of colour where there isn’t much.

Agate Silver Chain and Pearl Necklace

This necklace felt like the most “me.”

The combination of pearls and chains is so very me.

A little bit of class, mixed with a little bit of attitude.

PicsArt_1409232960253[1]

It was perfect to add some attitude to a conservative work look.

It adds a lot of personality to any outfit.

But it is definitely enough of a statement piece to stand on its own as well

Just some bare skin and a necklace.

Tassels Necklace

I just HAD to do a plunging neckline outfit for this necklace.

This necklace won’t only look great with a shirt or dress that follows the same neckline.

It would also look amazing with a dress or shirt that has a high neckline.

How to Thrift

I by no means consider myself a thrifting expert.

But I have been known to find some really great pieces.

And known for putting together some outfits that would make you look twice.. knowing most of it came from thrift stores.

———————–

Before I even had my first adult experience thrifting- I researched….as I’ve been known to do.

I googled the wealthiest part of the city searched the nearby “good will.”

My logic being that the wealthiest can buy the best material, and best brands …and well donate them near their home.

Choosing the nearest thrift store to your home, although convenient, may not be the best strategy.

Once you’ve set your targets on the perfect location. How do you find the diamond in the rough?

Personally I take my time. I go through it all.

Although the employees try to keep the store organized either by size, colour, and type of clothing. The reality is stuff gets lost, misplaced, or even hidden-Yes hidden. People may find an item that they don’t want to purchase at that moment and will hide the item within a different section. Obviously this item was good enough to hide, meaning its good enough to take the time to find!

Sorry Ladies- You snooze you lose.

Now of course it would be mind numbingly long to inspect each item in the entire store.

So to speed up the process- learn to keep a keen eye.

If you don’t think you could spot that shining diamond in the rough.

Practice.

Go though your closet; take the time to really take a look.

Feel the material, notice the stitching, and how it falls off the hanger.

Once you know what you are looking for- it will stand out amongst the cotton oversized tee-shirts at the thrift store.

The trick is to scan the racks.

—-

Once you find something. Be sure to look it over.

Inspect for imperfections, tears, missing buttons, broken zippers, stains…yes I said it.

Some things people donate, maybe should have been donated to the garbage bin.

I once found a pair of bebe high-waisted shorts with the security tag still on it.

like really?

You know what- I bought them.

Doesn’t mean I’m a thief right.?!

I just went home and researched how to disassemble a magnetic security tag without ruining the item of clothing.

You really can find anything on youtube.

The point of this story?

Some items can be fixed.

Sure it may be missing a button…

but you can go out choose your own buttons and create a completely unique piece to your own design!

Also little fixes like stitching, and re-zippering all are very budget friendly.

….

But some things sometimes cannot be fixed- like fit.

I don’t know how many times I’ve found a great pair of heels only to be tragically disappointed when THIS  Cinderella wasn’t so lucky.

But that’s the game of thrifting.

You may be the ugly sister for one charming item…but then you look twelve o’clock and find the shoe that fits.

Did you love that labored metaphor? haha

….

Lastly I’ve leave you with some of my recent thrifted outfits.
